Is the Art and Design Department at CSUDH right for me?
The Art & Design Department at CSUDH offers its students a strong foundational education in any of the three tracks they choose to pursue, along with individualized guidance, opportunities to exhibit, working studios, and helpful staff.

How do I apply?
Please visit our csudh.edu website and click on the “Future Students” link on the left of your screen.

Should I meet with an advisor?
Yes! Please, contact the Art & Design Department office at 310-243-3310. Art advising is done by art faculty members, which help facilitate your time in the program by guiding you to take the best classes for your chosen track. When you meet with an advisor bring your copy of any transcripts from any previous college/university, your CSUDH grades, and your Certificate of Admission and Evaluation.

What are possible career paths for Art & Design majors?
Art History
Research and consultation work for museums and theater designer, art consultant, art critic, positions in supervising commercial art galleries, private collections, historic homes and landmarks, curator or director in major or smaller museums; teaching in K-12 schools, consultant for stores and business dealing in art works; tour leader or museum educator in major or smaller museums; and visual arts resource specialist. Design:
Graphic designer, advertising, packaging, web designer, motion graphics, sales and promotion, animator, or freelance artist. For more information, please visit the Programs page.
Studio Art:
Self-employed Exhibiting artist; self-employed work for various organizations on free-lance or commission basis; artist-in residence/artist-in-the-schools; art consultant, art director, teaching in K-12 schools, art therapy, cartoonist, illustrator, medical and illustration.For more information, please visit the Programs page.

Are there scholarships?
Yes, we offer the Winston Hewitt Art & Design Endowed Scholarship during the Fall semester. Please, call the Art & Design Department office at 310-243-3310 for more information regarding deadlines and requirements.

Are studios open to art students?
The studios are open to Art & Design students who are enrolled in classes that use those studios, otherwise you have to obtain permission from the department faculty and chair.
