HIS 306 Course Information

 

History 306 (’ÄúHistory and Social Science in the Secondary Schools’Äù) is a required course for completion of the new History-Social Science Single Subject Matter Credential Preparation Program. This new course, ’ÄúHistory and Social Science in the Secondary Schools,’Äù provides the 45 hours of classroom observation required to complete the program, and teaches you how to construct curricula that meet state requirements. Below is information about the course that requires your immediate attention:

Urgent Task:  In order to fulfill the classroom observations component of this class, you must contact Ms. Teri Abbott, Director of the Center for Teaching Careers, and arrange to take a TB test and be fingerprinted. As this process takes several weeks to complete, you must contact Ms. Abbott in the next 2 weeks in order to be ready to take the class in the spring.

Contact Information: Ms. Abbott may be reached by phone (310-243-2663; X2663 on campus) or by email (tabbott@csudh.edu). She is on campus Mondays, 11:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m.; Wednesdays, 1:30-6:00 p.m.; and Thursdays, 9:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

How to Register for History 306:  History 306 has been officially approved (pending minor revisions) and will soon appear on the class schedule for Spring 2008 and on your transcript. For now, however, you need to register for HIS 395.04 (listed under Spring 2008 Class Schedule Addenda/Class Additions, http://www.csudh.edu/acresmgt/classched/sp08/sp08adds.htm).

More information on the Course: The course meets Wednesdays, 4:00-6:45 pm. The course is designed to introduce students in the History-Social Science Subject Matter preparation program to the history and social science curriculum at the secondary level. It requires 45 hours of observation and field experience divided evenly between middle and high schools. It thus allows you to fulfill the Professional Preparation prerequisite of the new History-Social Science Single Subject Matter Credential Preparation Program If you have any questions about the course itself, please contact me via email: everba@csudh.edu.

More Information on Student Observations: Ms. Teri Abbott will arrange for you to conduct 45 hours of classroom observation over the spring semester, divided evenly between high school and middle school. The schools Ms. Abbott are all within the general area of CSUDH.
