banquetHistory's First Annual Banquet, May 2009

The History Department hosted its first banquet on May 9, 2009, to honor our 2008-2009 graduates and award winners. We also honored retiring professor Frank Stricker and long-time department administrative assistant Nancy Owens. About 60 people attended the banquet, including graduates, honorees and their guests, and department staff and faculty. It was held on the CSUDH campus. The guest speaker was El Camino College Dean Stephanie Rodriguez, CSUDH History Alumna. People raved over the food, catered by CSUDH.

 

 

 

GettyHistory Student Club Visits the Getty Villa, April 2009

The CSUDH History Student Club sponsored a trip to the Getty Villa museum in Malibu. Dr. Jeffers described the exterior and grounds of the museum, which were modeled on a first century BCE Roman country estate.

Tournees Festival of French Films, April 2008

The California State University, Dominguez Hills Department of History has been awarded a grant from the French American Cultural Exchange (FACE) to bring the Tournees Festival of French Films to campus in April, 2008.

Evelyn Hu-DeHartReception for Presidential Inauguration Speaker Evelyn Hu-DeHart, May 2008

The History Department sponsored a reception for Professor Evelyn Hu-DeHart. Dr. Hu-DeHart is Professor of History at Brown University. She is also Director of the Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America at Brown. She was the keynote speaker at the inauguration of CSUDH President Mildred Garca.

On May 1, Dr. Hu-DeHart spoke to the department and its guests about her current research. The event was made possible in large part by generous donations from emeriti History faculty Don Hata and Linda Pomerantz.
